Mindfulness and Oncology: innovative pathway for patients kicks off

TheCandiolo Institute-IRCCS has recently inaugurated an innovative mindfulness course dedicated to more than 20 cancer patients, with the aim of improving inner well-being and providing useful tools for coping with the path of illness.
Through collaboration with Walce Onlus, the program is part of an integrated care model, which aims to support patients not only medically, but also psychologically and emotionally.
The course consists of eight meetings, structured as follows:

  • Seven sessions of two hours each.
  • A six-hour intensive meeting.

During the meetings, patients will be followed by psychologists Dr. Francesco Scavelli and Maria Vittoria Pacchiana, experts in mindfulness and oncological psychological support. Through mindfulness meditation techniques and focused attention, participants will learn strategies for coping with illness with greater peace of mind.

Main objectives of the mindfulness path

Reduce stress and anxiety: Breathing and meditation techniques help manage worries related to illness and treatments.

Improving emotional balance: Through hands-on exercises, patients will learn to manage negative emotions and develop greater inner serenity.

Increasing resilience: The course aims to strengthen the ability to cope with difficulties with greater awareness and acceptance.

An innovative approach to integrated oncology

The introduction of mindfulness in oncology care pathways is an important step toward a more humane and personalized treatment. The Candiolo Institute – IRCCS thus intends to pursue its concrete commitment in supporting patients, offering them tools to cope with the disease not only from a physical point of view, but also from a psychological and emotional one.
Indeed, the integration of mindfulness into cancer treatments demonstrates how psychological well-being is a key component of treatment. This pathway offers patients concrete tools to cope with the disease with greater awareness, reduce stress and improve quality of life.
