Prostate removed with robots, AI and augmented reality: first study on effectiveness and recovery

Just days before the start of Movember, the international male cancer awareness campaign, IRCCS Candiolo has published a new study in the journal European Urology confirming the effectiveness of using 3D technology, Artificial Intelligence and augmented reality in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy surgeries. For the first time, researchers compared the standard robot-assisted procedure with one supported by AI and augmented reality, demonstrating the superiority of the latter over the former, both in terms of effectiveness and functional recovery.
“Our study is the culmination of nearly a decade of work, which allowed us to perfect first the 3D reconstruction of the prostate and then the application of augmented reality,” the comment by Francesco Porpiglia, Full Professor of Urology in the Department of Oncology at the University of Turin and Director of Urology at IRCCS Candiolo.
