The Candiolo Institute
The Candiolo Cancer Institute is a leading center dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of oncological diseases. Established in 1996 through the commitment of the Piedmont Foundation for Cancer Research ETS, it has become a nationally and internationally recognized reference point in oncology.
In 2013, the Institute was designated as an Institute for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare (IRCCS), recognizing its excellence as a research hospital where clinical care and scientific innovation work hand in hand. This integrated approach enables the Institute to provide increasingly effective, patient-centered treatments supported by advanced technologies, state-of-the-art procedures, and continuous professional development of its staff.
Since 2008, the Institute has been part of the Piedmont and Aosta Valley Oncology Network. It joined the Alliance Against Cancer (ACC) in 2016 and is a Full Member of theEuropean Organization of Cancer Institutes (OECI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
Since 2024, the Institute has also participated in the European Joint Action CCI4EU, an initiative focused on strengthening regional oncology infrastructures across Europe.
Each year, the Candiolo Cancer Institute cares for more than 35,000 patients through personalized treatment pathways delivered in both day hospital and inpatient settings.

Our Mission: Research and Care
At the Candiolo Cancer Institute, research drives care, and care inspires research.
Every day, we pursue a clear mission: to provide increasingly effective and personalized cancer treatment, improving patients’ quality of life and offering new perspectives for health and recovery.
Clinical practice and scientific research work in close synergy to prevent, diagnose, monitor, and treat cancer through innovative and increasingly targeted strategies. At the same time, we are committed to sharing scientific advances and training the healthcare and research professionals of today and tomorrow, because knowledge and education are essential components of high-quality care.
This integration between science and medicine is strengthened through active participation in national and international clinical trials, which create a vital connection between laboratory research and patient care. Thanks to these studies, our patients can access innovative and promising therapies, often years before they become widely available.
At the Candiolo Cancer Institute, science and care come together every day to build a future in which cancer can be increasingly prevented, controlled, and ultimately defeated.
A Network of Collaborations
At the Candiolo Cancer Institute, research and patient care continue to advance through a strong network of scientific and academic collaborations.
The Institute works in close partnership with the University of Turin and with the Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine (IIGM), two institutions that share a common commitment to innovation and progress in the fight against cancer.
Collaboration with the University of Turin strengthens the Institute’s dual mission of research and education. Through this partnership, researchers, physicians, and students work side by side on joint projects, promoting the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice while training the next generation of medical and oncology research professionals.
The partnership with IIGM further enhances the integration of cutting-edge genomic research into patient care. Thanks to the Institute’s expertise in cancer genomics, discoveries in molecular and genetic research can be translated into increasingly precise and personalized approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Through these collaborations, IRCCS Candiolo has established itself as a European center of excellence, combining education, basic and translational research, technological innovation, and patient care within an integrated model of precision and personalized medicine.
Certifications
Our commitment to Quality and Safety has led us to pursue and obtain important certifications of excellence in the health care industry.
In May 2022, the Institute was awarded accreditation by Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI https://www.oeci.eu)– the network that groups the most important cancer research and treatment centers in Europe – with the designation of “Comprehensive Cancer Center,” the highest award given by OECI.
This certifies that the Institute meets the highest standards, elaborated at the European level, in the field of oncology patient care and treatment and translational clinical cancer research, focusing on patient-centeredness and involvement and multidisciplinary care.
The Institute’s Transplant Center (included in the Turin Metropolitan Transplant Center Program) has been accredited as a facility of excellence by the European/US JACIE-FACT system and the National Transplant Center since July 2013.
In 2025, the Institute received 3 Pink Stamps, valid for the two-year period 2026-2027, representing the highest recognition of a “woman-friendly” hospital, awarded by the National Observatory on Women’s Health and Gender, in recognition of the attention and efficiency of services dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of women’s diseases.
In 2025, the Institute received 1 Blue Stamp from the Onda ETS Foundation for excellence in services in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of prostate cancer, with a focus on post-surgical functional complications.
As of November 2022, the Institute has achieved ISO 45001:2018 certification, aimed at implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient occupational health and safety management system, pursuing continuous performance improvement through the identification and assessment of risks.
Since November 2016, the Candiolo Institute has been adopting a Quality Management System focused on process effectiveness and patient satisfaction for which it has obtained Quality Certification according to ISO 9001:2015 by the certifying body Bureau Veritas.
The Bureau Veritas expert panel certified the quality of all business processes pertaining to care, research and staff training, highlighting the committment of senior management, the strong focus on patient care and assistance, and the excellent quality of basic, translational and clinical research.
