Description

At the Candiolo IRCCS, patients in care can, when scheduled in their care pathway, access psychological visits with the aim of protecting not only physical health, but also emotional and relational health.
Attention to the patient’s overall health is an integral part of the Institute’s approach, which considers psychological well-being a key element in coping with cancer treatment and the recovery phase.

The service works in synergy with the multidisciplinary team, providing continuous psychological accompaniment during all stages of the oncology journey, from diagnosis to rehabilitation and follow-up.

Activities

The Psychology Service deals with:

  • Psychological support for cancer patients and/or their family members and caregivers, within the care setting, at the individual and group level. Support can be through individual, couple or family counseling and pathways aimed at providing tools to cope with anxiety, fear, stress and changes in daily life;
  • Psychological and social support for families in the presence of children, adolescents or other fragile situations. Through a project supported by the Piedmont and Aosta Valley Oncology Network, the Fragile Families Protection Project works to provide psychological and psychotherapeutic support to patients and family members, foster communication and relationships with fragile individuals, and offer social and welfare support through networking with the local area;
  • body mediation therapies, interventions that integrate psychological work with body awareness and relaxation techniques, useful for improving stress management, aiding recovery and promoting positive self-perception.
