Description
The Pneumology Unit at Candiolo Cancer Institute provides specialized support for the diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases in cancer patients, combining clinical expertise with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
Activities
The service offers a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including:
- Diagnostic bronchoscopy for airway exploration, diagnosis, and lung cancer staging, with options such as bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial biopsies, transbronchial biopsies, and endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA).
- Respiratory function assessment, including basic and comprehensive spirometry, alveolar-capillary diffusion testing, and measurement of residual lung volume.
- Preoperative functional evaluation for patients considered for lung resection.
- Assessment and management of pleural effusions, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
