Otolaryngology (ENT)

Director: Dr. Stefano Bondi

Description

The Department of Otolaryngology (Ear Nose and Throat) at the Candiolo Cancer Institute specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of neoplastic diseases of the head and neck, emphasizing minimally invasive techniques and integration into multidisciplinary care pathways.

Advanced Surgical and Diagnostic Approaches

Otolaryngology specialists employ minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce hospital stay, postoperative pain, and complications, promoting faster recovery. Surgical and diagnostic procedures include:

  • Diagnosis of tumors of the nasolabial region, oral cavity, pharynx, neck, and endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid, salivary glands), using fiberoptic and high-definition endoscopic systems (3D/4K)
  • Minimally invasive head and neck surgery, including endoscopic and laser-assisted procedures
  • Robotic surgery for complex head and neck tumors
  • Reconstructive surgery, using revascularized free flaps and pedicled flaps to restore form and function
  • Oral disease management in cancer patients, including remediation prior to radiation therapy, high-dose chemotherapy, or bisphosphonate therapy
  • Post-surgical speech rehabilitation, addressing speech and communication disorders, oral functional impairments, and swallowing difficulties
