Ovarian Cancer Center

Direttore: Dott. Luigi Carlo Turco

Description

The Ovarian Cancer Center at IRCCS Candiolo is a center specializing in the treatment of ovarian carcinoma and advanced gynecological oncological malignancies. Here, patients are followed by a multidisciplinary team and can also access clinical trials with innovative therapies and experimental drugs.

The Center deals with:

  • Treat ovarian cancer and gynecological cancers using advanced technologies for diagnosis, surgery, and chemotherapy
  • Develop clinical research to improve care and long-term outcomes
  • Train gynecologic oncologists to ensure increasingly effective and personalized care

Treatment is shared among several specialists: gynecologic oncologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and anatomic pathologists work together to build the most appropriate course for each patient. Surgical interventions range from minimally invasive surgery, indicated in early forms and young patients, to more complex surgery for advanced cases.

Activities

At the Ovarian Cancer Center of the Candiolo Institute, patients with suspected or diagnosed ovarian cancer can count on a highly specialized and multidisciplinary care pathway.

The center offers advanced diagnostic services, including a Level II ultrasound clinic staffed by experts according to IOTA criteria, which allows rapid and accurate evaluation of suspicious pelvic masses.

Treatment is individualized and defined by an Interdisciplinary Care Group (ICG), which develops a Diagnostic Therapeutic Care Plan (PDTA) shared with the patient. Treatment options include:

  • Minimally invasive and conservative surgery in early forms to complex surgery for advanced disease, jointly managed by experienced gynecologists and cancer surgeons
  • Traditional chemotherapy and targeted therapies, such as bevacizumab and PARP inhibitors (for patients with BRCA mutations or relapses)
  • innovative experimental therapies, including HIPEC (intraoperative hyperthermic chemotherapy) and PIPAC (intraperitoneal aerosolized chemotherapy), in national and international clinical trials.

Care is based on a comprehensive approach, thanks to the presence of specialists in psycho-oncology, clinical nutrition and palliative care, who accompany patients throughout their treatment, helping to improve their quality of life.
