Description
Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at IRCCS Candiolo is dedicated to restoring the physical and functional integrity of cancer patients following demolitive surgery, with the goal of improving their quality of life and reducing the aesthetic and psychological impact of the disease.
Plastic Reconstructive Surgery actively collaborates with the other Operating Units involved in the cancer patient’s care pathway, making an essential contribution to multidisciplinary care.
Activities
Specialists deal with:
- Post-oncologic breast reconstruction, either immediate (in conjunction with demolition surgery) or deferred
- Reconstruction of cancer surgery outcomes in different body districts(head-neck, limbs, trunk, genital area)
- follow-up visits and post-operative follow-up
The team adopts advanced plastic and reconstructive surgery techniques, including:
- Use of autologous tissues (free, perforating and pedicled flaps)
- use of prosthetic materials
- skin grafts
These solutions allow reconstruction of altered volumes and profiles while maintaining the functionality of the treated body district.
