Description

The Department of Internal Medicine at IRCCS Candiolo is dedicated to the care of oncology patients who present with internal medicine complications, that is, acute medical issues that may hinder or delay the normal course of treatment against cancer.

Activities

Specifically, the department is responsible for:

  • patients who develop sudden clinical complications, such as pneumonia, respiratory distress, heart failure, or other acute internist conditions that require an immediate, multidisciplinary medical approach;
  • cancer patients who need a thorough cardiovascular risk assessment before starting advanced cancer therapies. This makes it possible to offer safer and tailored treatments, taking into account the patient’s overall condition.

Access to the department

Access to the Department of Internal Medicine is currently restricted to inpatients or patients from other hospitals in the Piedmont region, as long as the patients have a clinical picture compatible with the department’s mission, which is the treatment of oncology patients with acute internist complications.
