Description
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Hereditary Tumors at the Candiolo Cancer Institute specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers and works in close synergy with the Breast Surgery and with the Center for Ovarian Tumors.
The team also has particular expertise in the management of hereditary female cancers, which may affect both the breast and pelvic organs, including ovaries, cervix, endometrium, vagina and vulva).
For women at high genetic risk of developing gynecologic cancers, the Division offers dedicated pathways that include oncogenetic counseling, conducted with genetic specialists to assess cancer risk and determine the need for genetic testing. Customized surveillance, prevention programs, and prophylactic surgery are also available.
Clinical and Instrumental Diagnostic Services
- Level II transvaginal ultrasound
- Colposcopy and vulvoscopy
- PAP test and HPV test
- Targeted biopsies
Outpatient Services
- Examinations for patients with suspected or confirmed oncologic pathology of the female breast and pelvis
- Oncogenetic counseling, including:
- Cancer risk assessment and, if indicated, genetic testing for BRCA1/2 mutations
- Counseling for other suspected hereditary disorders, such as Lynch Syndrome
- Intake visits for healthy women or patients with hereditary breast or ovarian cancer syndromes and Lynch Syndrome, including:
- Breast and gynecologic examination
- Transvaginal ultrasonography
- Counseling on reproduction, surveillance, prevention, chemoprevention, and prophylactic surgery, with scheduling of preventive breast and gynecologic procedures
- Arrangement of instrumental exams (mammography, bilateral breast ultrasound, contrast-enhanced breast MRI)
- Psychological counseling and consultations with other specialists (urologist, gastroenterologist, dermatologist, etc.)
Surgical Services
- Oncologic Senology: Oncoplastic conservative surgery; mastectomy with reconstruction for breast cancer
- Preventive Senology: Prophylactic mastectomy with reconstruction for patients at high genetic risk
- Gynecologic Oncology: Open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery for gynecologic cancers
- Preventive Gynecology: Excision of lower vaginal tract lesions, resectoscopic excision of endouterine lesions, adnexectomy, and/or prophylactic hysterectomy for high-risk patients
The Division combines state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, personalized genetic counseling, and advanced surgical techniques to ensure comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for both treatment and prevention of hereditary and sporadic gynecologic cancers.
