Description
The Department of Otolaryngology at IRCCS Candiolo is concerned with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of neoplastic diseases of the head and neck region, with a focus on the use of minimally invasive techniques and integration into multidisciplinary pathways.
Otolaryngology specialists use minimally invasive surgical techniques that reduce hospital days, postoperative pain, and complications, promoting faster recovery.
The management of oncologic pathology occurs within multidisciplinary pathways shared with the departments of, Pathologic Anatomy, Endocrinology, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiodiagnostics, Radiotherapy, and with all other units involved in the personalized care of the individual patient.
Peculiarities of the activity
- Diagnosis of nasolabial, oro-pharyngeal cavity, neck, and endocrine gland (thyroid, parathyroid, salivary) tumors, including by fiberoptic endoscopic systems
- Minimally invasive surgery of the head and neck region using high-definition endoscopy (3D/4K) and laser technologies
- Robotic surgery of the head and neck district
- Reconstructive surgery of the head and neck district using revascularized free flaps and pedicled flaps
- Prevention and treatment of oral diseases in cancer patients
- Remediation of the oral cavity in patients who are candidates for radiation therapy of the cervicofacial district, high-dose chemotherapy, bisphosphonate therapies
Post-surgical speech rehabilitation
Following surgery, patients can benefit from speech therapy services, aimed at the rehabilitation of speech and communication disorders, impaired oral functions, and swallowing difficulties.

- Head and neck cancers (oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, nose and sinuses, salivary glands, skin cancers of the cervicofacial district)
- Thyroid and parathyroid cancers
