Description
The Ovarian Cancer Center at the Candiolo Cancer Institute is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian carcinoma and advanced gynecological malignancies. Patients receive comprehensive care from a multidisciplinary team and have access to clinical trials evaluating innovative therapies and investigational drugs.
The Center focuses on:
- Providing state-of-the-art treatment for ovarian and gynecologic cancers through advanced diagnostic tools, surgical techniques, and systemic therapies
- Conducting clinical research aimed at improving patient care and long-term outcomes
- Training gynecologic oncologists to deliver increasingly effective, personalized treatment
Care is coordinated among a team of specialists, including gynecologic oncologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and anatomic pathologists, who collaborate to design the most appropriate treatment plan for each patient. Surgical management ranges from minimally invasive procedures, typically indicated for early-stage disease and younger patients, to complex operations required for advanced cases.
Activities
At the Ovarian Cancer Center of the Candiolo Cancer Institute, patients with suspected or confirmed ovarian cancer benefit from a highly specialized, multidisciplinary care pathway.
The Center provides advanced diagnostic services, including a Level II ultrasound clinic staffed by experts trained according to IOTA criteria, ensuring rapid and accurate assessment of suspicious pelvic masses.
Each patient’s treatment is individualized and defined by an Multidisciplinary Care Group (GIC), which develops a Diagnostic and Therapeutic Health Care Plan (PSDTA) in close collaboration with the patient.
Treatment options include:
- Surgical management, ranging from minimally invasive and fertility-sparing procedures in early-stage disease to complex cytoreductive surgery for advanced cases, performed by experienced gynecologic oncologists and cancer surgeons.
- Systemic therapies, including conventional chemotherapy and targeted treatments such as bevacizumab and PARP inhibitors, particularly for patients with BRCA mutations or recurrent disease.
- Innovative approaches, including HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) and PIPAC (pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy), offered within national and international clinical trials.
Care is delivered through a comprehensive, patient-centered approach, supported by specialists in psycho-oncology, clinical nutrition, and palliative care. These professionals work alongside the core medical team throughout the treatment pathway, helping to support patients’ well-being and enhance quality of life.
