IRCCS in Candiolo offers the possibility for patients in the Institute’s care to have physiatric examinations, if provided in the treatment pathway, with a view to rehabilitation and recovery of the patient’s function and overall health.
The physiatric examination allows the assessment of the patient’s function from the orthopedic, neurological, and respiratory points of view, under normal conditions or following trauma, in order to intervene both in the treatment of new-onset diseases and for preventive purposes to limit the progression and impact on the function of the patient with chronic diseases.
The physiatry service at IRCCS Candiolo deals with:
- Objective assessment in both standing and lying position of joints or muscle/tendon/nerve structures
- assessment of the patient’s residual functional abilities and the degree of disability caused by the cancer pathology, developing a prediction on the timing of recovery through the rehabilitation or treatment pathway.
