Description

The Candiolo Cancer Institute features a dedicated Medical Oncology inpatient ward with 30 beds, providing care for patients with solid tumors or onco-hematologic diseases.

The ward administers the most advanced drug therapies, with a focus on molecularly targeted treatments and immunotherapies, representing some of the most promising frontiers in modern cancer care.

The department also houses the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSC) and Cellular Therapies Center specializing in patients requiring stem cell transplantation—either autologous (using the patient’s own cells) or allogeneic (using cells from a matched donor).

Activities

The Medical Oncology Department is responsible for:

  • Diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up of patients with cancer
  • Management of a broad range of malignancies, with particular expertise in gastrointestinal, urogenital, gynecological,breast, skin cancers, including melanomas, hematological diseases, and sarcomas.
  • Patient inclusion in clinical trials, with over 70 protocols available, some in collaboration with leading national and international cancer centers.
  • Translational research, utilizing the attached Biotechnology Laboratory to convert scientific discoveries into tangible therapies for patients.

Endowments

  • 26 beds designated for therapy administration, particularly chemotherapy
  • 4 beds in protected isolation rooms reserved for patients undergoing high-risk immunosuppressive treatments, such as stem cell transplants
